Meet Larry
My name is Larry Zimmerman. I grew up in Huntington, WV, and
have lived in Kentucky for over twenty-one years. I am a proud
father of three boys: Larry (33), Derek (30), and Jared (18). I've
been married to my wonderful wife, Penny, for twenty years.
Career Synopsis
I have a deep-rooted work ethic, developed through working side jobs with my father during my childhood. My interest in law enforcement began in the 2nd grade when policemen visited my class. I was sworn in as an officer in Huntington, WV on August 19, 1993, where I served for nearly 30 years advancing through every rank and position. I graduated from the FBI National Academy on December 11, 2016 (247th Session) and retired in late 2022. Currently, I work with the University of Kentucky Police Department as a Healthcare Policeman.
Community Involvement
Since retirement, I remain active in my organizations and have a passion for training and professional development. Additionally, I coached youth baseball for 17 years and celebrated a city championship in 2006. Recently, I became a grandfather and look forward to future coaching endeavors. I am committed to the mission of the National Academy and have
worked tirelessly to support our association since becoming a member in 2011.
